Directions to Plot: NE of the confluence of the Appomattox R. with Plain Run Branch; S. of Sweeney Mill Pinery
Small stream floodplain/ terrace on Appomattox River. Vegetation is rank and finding a suitable sample location was difficult. Overall floodplain has a canopy with Tulip Poplar, Black Walnut, Sycamore, Green Ash. Shrub layer is dense Spicebush and hard to walk through in most places. Openings are dominated by graminoids and coarse forbs, but also with much cover of woody exotics (Japanese Honeysuckle) and Microstegium. Understory/Tall Shrub layer is mainly Ironwood (Carpinus) with areas of Redbud. Should be resampled late in the season.
0-10+ Reddish Brown silty clay loam - deep alluvial soil with no horizon development in top 10 cm. Little to no litter accumulation, recent spring flooding
